Welcome, my name is Benjamin Mendes
This blog isn’t meant to grow into a massive platform—it’s simply a modest space where I share references, ideas, and inspirations that capture my attention. No grand ambitions, just a personal corner of the internet to collect and share what resonates with me..
About me
I have journeyed from the lens to the code, and now into the world of investment. I started as a photographer and transitioned into the entrepreneurial realm during the dot-com era, immersing myself in technology from its early stages. After moving into the telecommunications industry, I served as Operations Director until 2016, where I played a key role in numerous large-scale projects involving enterprise storage, data processing, messaging, authentication and IPTV, to name a few.
Since 2016, I have held the position of Investment Director at BrightPixel Capital, the venture capital arm of the Sonae Group, which manages €600 million in assets. In this role, I lead the Infrastructure Software investment team, focusing on investments ranging from €1m to €25m, spanning early-stage ventures to growth-stage companies. My passion lies in first principles thinking, and I thrive on the challenge of conceptualizing and help building the next generation of technology companies.
Currently focused on:
- understanding how data and machine learning will impact the world
- strategies to govern and manage data at an exabyte scale
- challenges posed by a trillion-devices internet
- scaling blockchain technologies
- exploring ways to enhance real-time data processing
