Visual Capitalist just released this updated chart of the 50 largest companies in the world (July 2025) — and it’s another reminder that software really did eat the world.
The top 5 companies are all in tech: NVIDIA, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, and Alphabet. Together, they’re worth more than most countries’ GDPs. NVIDIA alone — the company powering the AI boom — now sits at $4.2 trillion, ahead of everyone else.
It’s also striking how the old industrial order has shifted. Netflix is now bigger than ExxonMobil. That says a lot about where value is being created — from oil to algorithms, from pipelines to data streams.
Even financial giants, healthcare, and consumer brands are being reshaped by software and AI: from Visa to Johnson & Johnson, from Nestlé to LVMH, they all depend on digital infrastructure to grow.
In 2025, “tech company” doesn’t mean much anymore — almost every company on this list is a tech company.
